Structure
The structure of a horizontal cement silo primarily consists of the following key parts:
Silo Body: The silo body serves as the main component, typically featuring a cylindrical or elliptical shape welded from steel plates. Furthermore, internally, reinforcing ribs are added to enhance overall strength and stability. For material flow, inlet and outlet ports are positioned at both ends to facilitate receiving and discharging materials.
Support Structure: The support structure includes outriggers and a foundation. Specifically, outriggers come in two types, fixed and adjustable, which work together to support the silo and maintain its stability.
Dust Collection System: To ensure environmental control, the silo is equipped with a dust collection system that prevents contamination and maintains material flowability. This system typically comprises dust collectors, ductwork, and fans, which effectively remove dust from the interior.
Arch-Breaking Device: A critical feature for reliable operation, an arch-breaking device is installed to prevent material arching from obstructing discharge. Common examples of this device include pneumatic vibrators, air cannons, or mechanical vibrators.
Level Gauges: Level gauges continuously monitor the material height inside the silo. Consequently, this allows for timely replenishment or cessation of loading. Common types used are capacitive, radar, and ultrasonic level gauges.
Discharging Device: The discharging device, which typically includes manual or pneumatic butterfly valves and screw conveyors, controls the precise unloading of materials.
Working principle
Materials enter the silo through the inlet via methods such as pneumatic conveying, screw conveying, or elevators. Once inside, the material accumulates naturally under gravity. The silo’s internal space stores the material, and its storage capacity depends on the silo’s volume and the material’s density. During unloading, operators open the unloading device, such as a butterfly valve, and the material flows out from the unloading port under gravity. To prevent material arching from affecting discharge, the arch-breaking device operates periodically or as needed to break up any formed arches. The dust removal system runs continuously, constantly removing dust from the silo during feeding and unloading, thereby ensuring material flowability and air quality.
